Security Guard Card Training

Guard Card Licensing in California

The State of California licenses security guards through the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS). Anyone pursuing a career in private security must complete and pass a preliminary 8-hour training course, which can be finished in a single day. Once certified, security guards are required to carry a valid “Guard Card” at all times.

Guard Card Assignment

After approval and hiring, California regulations require security guards to complete an additional 16 hours of training within the first 30 days. Another 16 hours must be completed within six months. These requirements ensure guards are fully prepared for the responsibilities of the job.
